About Kirsty Bortnik, PhD, ABPP-CN

Kirsty E. Bortnik, PhD,  ABPP-CN (PSY32126), is a licensed and board certified clinical neuropsychologist who focuses on adult and geriatric neuropsychological assessment. She has an extensive clinical background in the neuropsychology of various neurological conditions, with specialty training in epilepsy, movement disorders, and aging and dementia.

 

Dr. Bortnik obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa, and her MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA. She completed a Neuropsychology internship at the Charleston Consortium (Medical University of South Carolina/Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center) in Charleston, SC. She then completed a three-year Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY. During her fellowship, Dr. Bortnik was the recipient of the Epilepsy Foundation’s Behavioral Sciences Post-Doctoral Fellowship Award. 
 
Prior to joining OC neuroPSYCH, Dr. Bortnik worked as a clinical neuropsychologist at the Pacific Brain Health Center in Santa Monica, CA, and the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group in New York, NY, and Hackensack, NJ. In addition to her clinical work, she was an American Psychological Association (APA)-appointed representative to the United Nations and was also the Principal Investigator of a clinical research grant funded by the National Academy of Neuropsychology. 

 

Dr. Bortnik has authored several publications in the areas of language functioning and epilepsy, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, and performance validity in dementia and other neurological conditions.
